PayPal Problems

In the past we've allowed people to donate towards the continued development on a product. However, recent changes mean that a donation button is not allowed in the legal sense as we're not a non-profit organisation. The result is that our PayPal account was suspended.

Thus we will rephrase some of our documentation to avoid the word 'donation'. Our donationware software remains 'free' in the sense that people can try-before-they-buy for an indefinite period and then optionally buy/subscribe towards development for a price of their choice.

PayPal payments will be re-enabled very soon.

Contracting

We're open to doing contracting for other companies.

Recent projects done with Gibson International include:

  • Helping out with Vaeggen (May 2010)
    • Screen saver (synchronising multiple screens with adjacent screens to give a faux panoramic view)
    • Postcards (taking a photo of user with webcam, composing with screen, emailing out)
    • Email image upload (getting & parsing email, grabbing image, but majority of work was the UI widgets)
  • Majority of computer exhibits at Zealandia (April 2010)
    • 'Shadow interactive' (4 webcams capture user feedback and feed into interactive bird simulation projected across 2 screens)
    • Part author of 'Weather interactive' (use touch to drag around simulated weather system and trigger movies)
    • Room control software (startup/shutdown and coordination of other computer exhibits with 'Main movie')
    • Simple web kiosk

Technologies used included: Cocoa, OpenGL, Ogre3D, C++, C, Ruby, OSX System programming, Networking.

Polished Cube Port

Today we released v1.5 - much better performance, and now usable controls. Meanwhile we now have approx 1.3 million downloads since the initial release!

Cube Port Stats

Our port of Cube for the iPhone was finally approved on the 18th Nov.

Damn shame that it's free because the download statistics are shocking:

Date Downloads Event
18 Nov 2235 v1.0
19 46345
20 125275
21 150751
22 127466 v1.2
23 127736
24 91616
25 71139
26 59213

Currently we're sitting at #1 on the AppStore free downloads, though I think we've peaked - not bad considering the only advertising was two youTube videos and an announcement on the Cube forums.
